Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, once stated that he intended to replace programmers, on the premise that AI would be able to program perfectly. However, more recently, he has adjusted his discourse and now affirms that AI is, in fact, a productivity enhancer.

Those who already use tools like ChatGPT, Claude, DeepSeek, or other language models know: they are powerful, but they don't think like we do. They don't manipulate abstract concepts with the same fluidity with which we were trained to do from an early age. Thus, they lack the capacity to evaluate whether an answer is correct or not.

Two and a half years after the popularization of these models, we are entering a new phase: reality. AI didn't cause the total disruption promised by many in 2022. But it is already concretely transforming processes and relations in diverse areas, including the social and economic spheres.

The hype cycle: from euphoria to productivity

This movement isn't new. It is typical of the emergence of new technologies: at the beginning, there is a collective enthusiasm, a belief that all problems will be solved. Over time, limitations emerge, and expectations are adjusted. This trajectory is well described by the Hype Cycle, developed by the consulting firm Gartner.

According to an analysis published in 2024, about eight months ago, the reading remains quite accurate — and I recommend this video for anyone who wants to understand better:

According to this analysis, AI is currently in the so-called trough of disillusionment — the moment when excitement wanes and we face the practical challenges of the technology. But this is positive: it is a sign of maturation. The next step is to reach the plateau of productivity, where the technology consolidates and delivers real value.

For this, three factors are fundamental:

  • Simple interfaces: encapsulating technical complexity into solutions accessible to everyone;
  • Digital culture: empowering people to use AI critically and strategically;
  • Optimizing the training cost of the models, which currently consumes high amounts of energy.

And in practice?

Here at Sigalei, we live this reality every day. We are applying artificial intelligence to solve real problems in the governmental and institutional relations market. We create robust solutions that facilitate access to strategic information and automate complex processes — without losing the human touch.

We believe that AI has not come to replace, but to enhance people's work.
